Live/Still : a photographic exhibition of theatrical proportions

04 March 2009,

New photographic exhibition Live/Still captures dynamic moments from selected Silo Theatre productions (Auckland, NZ), creating striking static images from the transience of theatrical art.

Photographer Andrew Malmo freeze-frames a diverse range of Silo shows from The Goat (2005, photo left) to The Little Dog Laughed (2008). Like the plays, the 30 images of the exhibition run the emotional gamut, depicting the humour, pathos, rage and intensity of Silo's polished productions.

Each image here illuminates an instant. From the close-up portrait to the big picture, Andrew catches the subtle interplay of light, costume, set and human performance that makes a fleeting theatrical experience so memorable.

Andrew says of the exhibition, "It's my way of recognising Silo Theatre's tremendous contribution to the arts in Auckland, and also a way to express my joint passions for theatre and photography."

This exhibition offers a rare opportunity to re-live great moments by leading actors in some of Silo Theatre's outstanding productions since 2005.
